Das Bundesland Niedersachsen,
der Landkreis Rotenburg (Wümme),
die Samtgemeinde Selsingen,
die Gemeinde Sandbostel,
die Kirchengemeinde St. Lamberti Selsingen,
der Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge,
der Verein „Geschichtsfreunde Sandbostel“,
der Verein „Pro Europa“ und
der Verein „Dokumentations- und Gedenkstätte Sandbostel“.
To accomplish our task, we have purchased 3.2 ha of land in combination with 11 historical buildings, all being part of the formely 35 ha big stalag. Unfortunately all buildings are in a very bad condition. Our aim is to restore the historic basic fabric as soon as possible. So far we have been able to reconstruct 7 buildings, two more are going to be renovated within the next three years. The other two buildings however are in such a bad condition, that they can only be saved with enormous financial effort.
We do not only consider this historic site to be a place of memory and reminder, but a place to learn. We would like to interest especially youth groups and school classes in the history of WWII.
The federal state of Niedersachsen sponsors the work of one project coordinator and provides a teacher who parents school classes and youth groups visiting the site pedagogically.
